Anti-Racism Discussion: Talking About Race and Racism
Time & Location
About the Event
Join PMS for the first in a series of discussions on race and racism in our country. While we started with a fundraising campaign following the death of George Floyd, we wanted to keep the momentum and dialogue going in order to transform it into meaningful change. Our hope is that we can, as a community, work on actively fighting racism within ourselves and the spaces we exist in.
This first discussion-based salon will focus on talking about race and developing the language to better understand how it operates. As a part of this salon, we ask that you read/watch/listen to at least one of the following resources before joining the salon as it will provide an appropriate base for discussion. We will start the salon with an overview of key terms and then split into breakout rooms for small-group guided discussions.
- So You Want to Talk About Race - Ijeoma Oluo
- White Fragility: Why It's So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism, by Robin DiAngelo
- Dear White People (there’s also a tv series)
- Black Power Mixtape
- Implicit Bias Test
